Biography

Dr. Omar A. Fahmy is a professor of medicine & clinical hematology, Cairo University, where he graduated in 1985. He got his residency at the same institution in the department of medicine, clinical hematology unit, under the supervision of Professor Alaa El-Zayat, the founder of clinical hematology at Cairo University. Prof. Fahmy was honored the title of "The ideal doctor" in 1992 at the annual celebration of the Egyptian medical syndicate. In 1994, he was elected to receive a short post doctoral BMT training course at "Pitie – Salpetriere" hospital, Paris, France, under the supervision of professor JL Binet, the head of the hematology & BMT unit. Shortly afterwards, in 1995, Prof. Fahmy spent 12 months, as a research scholar, at the department of hematology & BMT, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. During his tenure, he mastered the art of BMT under the supervision of professor Stanton Gerson, the head of the department, & Prof. Hillard Lazarus, the director of the BMT program and the chairman of the ECOG-BMT committee. Currently, Dr. Fahmy is a member of the Lymphoma committee of the MENA region for the NCCN guidelines modifications. In addition, he is a hematology and BMT consultant in several Egyptian centers. He is a member of many professional societies including: the EHOG (Egyptian Hemato-Oncology Group), American Society of Hematology & American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. His main interest is in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and published more than 40 articles in that domain in several national and international journals.
